As part of this award-winning refurbishment project for South Western Railway (SWR), LJT were commissioned to investigate the existing frieze surrounding the perimeter of the Booking Hall at Richmond Station and develop a comprehensive repair and restoration plan.

The works involved a wide range of specialist tasks, including the replacement of damaged timber to match the original features, the creation of new solid curved corner sections, and the removal of roller shutters alongside the careful repair of the surrounding woodwork.

In addition, LJT undertook cable testing and the removal of redundant cabling, followed by the design and installation of bespoke boxing to discreetly house the remaining electrical services above the restored frieze. Fire assist panels were removed and replaced with a purpose-built cupboard to accommodate the fire systems more sympathetically within the space.

Glass elements were also cleaned, with any broken panes carefully matched and replaced to maintain the building’s original character.
