The toilets installed at Surbiton Railway Station had seen better days. We were under pressure from the client, designers and Conservation officer to carry out a sympathetic and serviceable conversion to the site.
All toilets on both platforms were refitted, including manufacturing matching doors and windows to the original 1920’s designs.
New door furniture was required for the installation, and LJT Builders came up with a new design for door handles, finger plates and escutcheons to extend the serviceability of the doors. There were none of these available to copy, so LJT Builders designed new units and had them forged in solid bronze as the originals would have been.
This was a £200K project, also completed within budget and timescale.
